Here are some past projects to get the blog started:
This is a collage I made over the summer using a toy I found on the sidewalk and some notes about communication.
Then, I started experimenting with making some gears and simple machines out of cardboard and other found objects.
This is one of the first machines I made. If you put your hand around the "thumb" and turn the crank, the machine holds your hand.
This machine is really a printing press. I made it out of recycled cardboard and office supplies. When you turn the crank, it reassures you with the phrase "We will be ok." It prints onto a roll of register paper.
The letter forms are carved from pink erasers. Here's an in-process shot of the letter forms for another version of the "We will be ok" machine. This new version combines the hand-holding machine with a tiny printing press that says "I'm here for you."
I've made multiples of the "We will be ok" and "I'm here for you" machines, and I plan to give them to friends. I'll ask the recipients to use up one roll of register tape themselves and then pass the machine on to a friend of their choice. I'll keep you posted as the machines travel.
Also, my friend Alexandra just showed me this awesome link and I think a lot of the work there are related to my printing press machines. Check it out here.
