The photos

These are photos taken through the peephole. I know the photos kind of defeat the original idea of only one person viewing the piece of a time but I'm happy with the way they turned out.

The box

My next step was to make a piece which you have to look through a peephole to see. The thought was that this, limiting the audience to one person, would make each experience with it more authentic. I took a box and poked a hole in it. Then, I made some paper with abaca pulp, alum and coffee grounds. I cut the sheets up and put them inside the box.

Tape Ball

After the cutting mat, I started looking for other forms and marks I make accidentally and I made my own version of this sculpture where instead of throwing away the tape I use to mask or position work in my studio, I kept it in a ball. This ball represents a month's worth of tape. Then, I cut the ball in half. I like the way it feels like a geode or some other type of rock formation.

Cutting Mat

After looking for the "authentic" grids in nature, I started thinking that really, humans are a part of nature and so the marks I make accidentally are also "authentic" natural forms. So, I took pictures of my own grid, the cutting mat I've been working on for the past 6 years.

Bark

During my nature walk, I found this bark in the woods (Don't worry, it was all in one piece and I found it on the ground so it wasn't ripped off of a living tree. I know that would hurt or kill the tree). Anyway, I made some little paper models based on the idea of papery bark.

Nature Walk

I walked around the campus of the school where I work and took these photos. I was looking for grid-like images because I see grids happening so much in my own work. I wanted to find some "authentic" natural grids.

More Fun With Words and Images

This week, I haven't been posting a lot, but I have been making more of these little word and image collages. The idea is to change the meaning of the picture with just a sentence or phrase.

Bookplate

I've been meaning to make bookplates for a while now, so I did. I made the stamp for the boarder from pencil erasers and then I wrote "Ex Libris" in ink and my name in watercolor. Turned out rather nice if I do say so myself. I made 40 or so in various colors.

The Beads Are Back!

Here are the beads I made in that class I posted about on Tuesday. They have been annealed and then I took some pictures!

Bead making

Here's the set up from the bead making class I took over the weekend. More photos of the beads to come after they've been annealed.
